Event Tips . . .
What follows represents a summary of what many players feel our neos should know before going to an event. Many an event has been ruined for a player because he/she forgot to bring extra socks or a sleeping bag. Please read the content below carefully and take each tip as advice from many years playing experience. If you have any tips to offer the next generation of neos, please feel free to drop the Webmaster a note.Costuming
Avalon is a game that plays out in a Medieval-Fantasy style world. This should be kept in mind when choosing a costume for a character. The different playable races are listed in the ‘Races of Verose’ section. Each race has its own unique costume requirements such as pointed ears for the different Khai and prosthetics for Danali. Keep this in mind as some races are more difficult and expensive to costume for than others.Stay in-period using leather, cotton, silk, suede and other common fabrics. Velcro, zippers, denim, tennis shoes, etc. are not in-period. Exceptions are made for prescription glasses.
Pouches are vital accessories to any character. This is where a character would store his/her in-character coin, potions, etc.
Also keep in mind costume pieces that would better fit the character being portrayed. Does this character keep to himself or herself? A hood would be a suitable costume piece. Does this character flaunt wealth or enjoy parties? Jewelry or colorful clothing would be in order. Costuming is not only how a character looks, it is also how a character’s personality affects that look.
Bring appropriate props for the character’s skills and talents. Ones with the healing art of Dothri would bring white strips of cloth to bandage with.
All armour being worn must have a prop associated with it. If a character has a Steele Breastplate then the player must have an armour prop made of metal that covers their chest. Vinyl works for leather armour.
Camping
Weekend events are held over night and the only places that are out of character are the bathrooms and Fear Factory. All cabins are in-character, which includes the cabins that the PCs sleep in. At any point during the event, beasts and other characters may enter any cabin, unless there is something blocking their path, such as an in-character lock or a force wall. This being said, remember to take the time to dress up your cabin with tapestries or covered or electronic candles.Bring everything needed to stay over night somewhere. Bathroom supplies, sleeping bag, a pillow, extra blankets.
Bring extra in-character food such as bread, fruit or juice. Tavern food is available but it never hurts to be prepared for late-night hunger.
Seasonal Reminders
Winter During winter beware of the cold; bring extra blankets, extra clothes and anything else to keep warm.
